Mechanical Force Amplifier Leverages Pounds Into Tons

LatchTool’s Standard PowerCylinder™ amplifies a linear force 10-fold. Measuring 7/8"Ø×5" with a 1½" stroke and weighing 16 ounces the PowerCylinder™ can be driven in either of two ways: Manually where a handle with a four-bar linkage is coupled with the PowerCylinder™ to step-up a 50# grip to deliver 3,000 pounds of force at the business end; and, As a mechatronic unit where a closed loop stepper motor/ball screw combination modulates the PowerCylinder™ to deliver 3,000 pounds of force for braking or control surface applications.

The PowerCylinder™ features an automatic resistance regulated three-speed transmission that trades-off speed of the ram’s advance for force. Available as an OEM device, the PowerCylinder™ offers plug-in simplicity for product design and ease of maintenance.

LatchTool has pioneered the development of the PowerCylinder™; establishing a new product category with its first introduction of a mechanical force amplifier. Internal geometries can be modified for custom amplification. The Company plans to introduce additional dimensioned PowerCylinders™ as the demand for various metrics become clear. Design services are available. Contact LatchTool Group at 719-488-8800.
